Vern Matthews (Cody Matthews's Father)
Possible sighting at a Bismarck North Dakota homeless shelter. Still waiting to talk to the reporting party, but the shelter said he left about two weeks ago without forwarding information. He was said to have slightly different color hair (if his hair was dirty and/or darkened from the winter, it could look different). Reportedly he had been doing work for a priest or minister somewhere, but no further information on that either. Anybody in or around the Bismark/North Dakota area, please keep your eyes open. If you need fliers, please PM me with your mailing information and we will send some right out.

Below is a message from Cody's father on a possible sighting of Cody.
The other day we were told of a man who is sure he saw Cody up in Trinity County (Northern California). He said Cody was with a group of guys in a broken down car, and gave directions to him. Apparently the man reported it to the Local Sheriff’s department, but we haven’t heard anything or had a chance to follow up through them. So we are hoping that if any of you have connections in Trinity County (or surrounding areas), you will repost there. If you are already in the area, please keep your eyes open. Compared to our Son going missing, all this other stuff is just a bad case of the flu!
As always, thank you so very very much!

Here is the follow up from today.
Early this morning the lady with the amazing DNA Scent Sniffing Dogs informed me that she was discontinuing her search efforts for our Son. She feels sure Cody is still in the area, but is unwilling to carry on. For three days she has been considering her options. Ultimately, I think the environmental conditions that are so foreign to both her and her dogs left her no choice. So this is where we are at…
Her dogs alerted on an area high above our cabin, and on a route heading in a direction that could, if he persisted, lead him to Ice House Road or beyond. Since these areas need to be worked in much greater detail, there is no guarantee either is going to yield Cody or clues. Because much of the forest in these areas is still hot and unstable, the USFS has heavy restrictions in place, thus limiting our access to a very small set of timely options.
Once the restrictions are lifted AND if the rain hasn’t caused mudslides (which would destroy any remaining clues) we hope to get some Anthropologists and/or Archeologists out to comb the hot spot and surrounding area above our cabin. As for the other areas…well there are a few hundred rugged acres to be vetted and no additional information to digest. So I’m still working on that one.
In the meantime, we will continue to hit up the hunters and spread the word in person and through various medias, and follow up on any leads or constructive suggestions or assistance (for example a P.I. may be entering the mix). Since we won’t give up on our kids, the war room will stay active while the Think Tank continues to run 24/7.

Here is a note from October 11th from Cody's Father.
Today a woman who specializes in DNA tracking dogs, volunteered her time and dogs to search for clues to Cody's whereabouts. Here is a very brief recap...
Interesting day, but only the prelims. Learned a lot about DNA/DNA sniffing dogs and new scenarios are already rolling around in my head. And they will likely stay there until follow-up work is done. Perhaps the most persuasive moment was right at the beginning where the dog picked up a scent and headed straight for a location that the Mantracker had found months prior. This find, along with some other possibilities, are a bit sideways to the search parameters. Again though, nothing scrutinized yet. So thanks to the amazing lady with these amazing dogs, and the mother/daughter team that helped us make things happen today.

Apologies for the delay here is the article that the Mt. Democrat did after the fire.
Today marks 16 weeks since Cody has gone missing. His birthday was bittersweet as everyone celebrated his birthday. It was great to see everyone celebrate in their own way which shows how diverse and loved Cody is. At the same time it was difficult to not have him with us to celebrate with.
During the last week and a half there has been a resurgence for Cody as our parents lost their home in the King Fire that brought the focus back on Cody. We are working to get through this speed bump and we have been reminded of the kindness in people with the flood of messages, clothes, food, donations, and a whole list of items that our parents needed.
While there is no way to show or express our gratitude I would love everyone to know our parents are beside themselves with the show of support. If people ever doubt the good out there all they have to do is read the messages that I have received over the last week to know it is still out there and it is never ending.

Hey everyone, we have received messages of the media trying to get a hold of the family. If you get a message like that please direct them to the email address mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org
With the fire and the lose of our parents home the search for Cody still continues, KAHI Radio and Washington Post have done the following stories about Cody and the fire.
